Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly, slice off both ends, and cut them into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat until dissolved. Stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Add the orange slices to the syrup, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 30-45 minutes until tender and translucent.
  4. Using tongs, remove slices and place them on wire racks or parchment paper to cool completely.
  5. Once dried (about an hour), sprinkle with extra sugar if desired. Store in an airtight container.
