  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 15 oz canned cherries (drained)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dough: Warm milk until hot but not boiling. Stir in yeast and let sit for five minutes until frothy. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Mix in yeast mixture and beaten eggs until sticky.
  2. Knead Dough: On a floured surface, knead dough for five minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for one hour until doubled.
  3. Create Filling: Drain cherries and cook with cornstarch over medium heat until thickened (about five minutes). Cool slightly.
  4. Roll Out: Punch down risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Spread cherry mixture evenly over the dough.
  5. Shape Rolls: Roll tightly from one edge, slice into twelve pieces, place in greased dish, cover, and rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before drizzling with powdered sugar mixed with water.
