  • 2 pounds Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes (about 4 medium)
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Wash, peel, and slice the potatoes into 1/8-inch thick rounds.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over low heat; stir in heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until warmed through.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, pour half of the sauce over them, and sprinkle with half of the cheese. Repeat layering with remaining ingredients.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
