  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 brioche burger buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions (as desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat until very hot.
  2. Gently form 4 loose balls of ground beef (about 3 oz each) without compacting them too much.
  3. Place each ball on the grill and smash down with a spatula to about half an inch thick. Season with salt and pepper immediately after smashing.
  4. Cook for about 2 minutes until sear marks form; add a slice of cheese on each patty and cover briefly until melted.
  5. While the patties cook, toast the sliced buns cut-side down on the grill for about one minute until golden brown.
