Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (400g)
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (300ml)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast (7g)
  • 2 tsp salt (10g)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (30ml)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy, then mix in olive oil.
  2. Gradually add flour and salt, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Gently deflate the dough on a floured surface, divide into two portions, and shape into oval loaves.
  6. Place shaped loaves on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with the damp cloth, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes while preheating the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped on the bottom. Cool on wire racks before slicing.
